Well, well, well...
I wanted to update every 2-3 days and then promptly forgot my login but remembered it today.
Cindy Sheehan. Let's talk about her for awhile. Everyone rushes to say we are sympathetic with her position. And we are. There is no one who garners more emotional capital than a person who loses a family member in the military. Or if they died in the attacks on 9/11/2001.
But, let's be serious here. I am not sure she really cares she has become the political tool of the anti-war crowd. If the T.V. cameras were not in Crawford, TX. she would find herself very much alone. Her new found friends would not find any time for her. She would be the lone voice crying in the wilderness. But, such is the magic of a modern liberal media. How far we can fall so fast if we allow ourselves to be used. And that is what is happening. Sad to see. Kind of pathetic. She is using the memory of her son for the gain of the Bush haters. Maybe one day she will see that and be remorseful.
So, she wants George Bush to meet with her. Let me ask all of you something. If you had someone call you names on national television, would you meet with that person? Would you be able to say anything at all to change their mind? Doubtful. I wouldn't meet with her and that would be that. I would come out and say it. "I met with you once. You had your chance and unless you have changed your position, then there is nothing left to say". Finit.
And the guy shooting off the gun was classic. This has indeed become a circus and Cindy Sheehan is the ringmaster. Step right up, folks. Sad. I want to feel sorry for her but she has squandered my sympathy. If her son were here he would ask her to stop.

I think the death of her son unhinged her. Either that, or she is the absolute most disgusting opportunist in the world, garnering her fifteen minutes of fame from his dead body. Certainly the people who are hoisting her on a pedestal are taking advantage of her grief.
It might have been possible for her to have met (again) with the president had she taken a low profile. But does she or anybody else honestly expect that he's going to come walking up to the gate of his ranch to have a talk with her now? If he did, every person in the country with a real or perceived grievance would be camped out on his doorstep.
Silly.
doc, i'm going with sheehan being an opportunist. she's met with bush before, and claimed afterwards that he's out of touch with the public. so it's done. her son was a VOLUNTEER soldier, who went into the service at 21 years old, and signed on for a second term. THEN, he volunteered for a mission that he knew was dangerous. the guy was a hero, he obviously knew the risks, and he obviously BELIEVED in what he was doing. it's his MOTHER who doesn't agree--and she admits to being against the war AFTER her son was killed. i have such sympathy for the family, having lost a son, but honestly, cindy sheehan is making a mockery of her son, may he rest in peace.

I think she has become ill. She did find him sympathetic when she met him & told a local newspaper that she liked him a lot & thanked him for him for the meeting which gave the family an oppertunity to meet other grieving families. In fact, they said that it was the first time since Casey died that they laughed & felt normal again.
Now, she says the war was fought for Israel & that the Secrete Service is trying to kill her. She is begin used by the left wing nuts & the media. Just wait till they get tired of her & move to another story; then she'll wake up.
While, I do feel sympathy for her loss, she is dishonouring her son's memory. The President is right not to meet her. While she lost a son, she is not the only one who did.
The real problem with this issue is that there seems to be some kind of belief that because she lost her son she can make outrageous statements and no one can contradict her.
If you do, then you get the obligatory "oh my god, how can you be so heartless!". If she had only went down there and said "I want to meet with you, Mr. President. I need this", she would not have had anyone find her actions so distasteful.
It was when she became a willing pawn for Michael Moore and his ilk was when people started getting upset. The overwhelming reaction I am seeing is, "How dare she hide behind the memory of her son while she takes pot-shots at the President, secure in her knowledge that he will not and cannot retort in any way!"
The huge majority of people who have lost loved ones fighting in this war do not hold George Bush responsible. They hold the terrorists responsible. The hold Zarqawi responsible.
